Berlin Review

Kiez Hostel Berlin

Kiez Hostel Berlin is my favorite place to stay in Berlin. It has a great location, a friendly atmosphere, and a cozy setup that makes it easy to enjoy both the hostel itself and the city around it.

What Kiez Hostel Berlin is like

Staff

The staff are very friendly and helpful. What I especially liked is that they even helped me proactively with overlapping bookings when they noticed the issue, even though I did not ask for it.

That kind of care is rare and really memorable.

Kitchen & common areas

There is a small kitchen corner where you can quickly prepare meals and snacks. It is furnished with everything you need for basic cooking.

The common resting area is beautifully designed and works great as a place to relax, work on your laptop, or have a conversation with open-minded travelers.

Toilets

There are several individual toilets available around the building:

  • separate individual toilet rooms
  • toilets combined with some shower areas

Showers

There are several showers in the hostel, including gender-separated ones.

In the male bathroom, there is a nice setup with 2 shower cabins with curtains placed side by side, plus a sink and mirror area.

In the furthest bathroom, near the Greek and Man's World rooms, there are 3 clean glass-based shower cabins. Overall, there are more than enough shower places for everyone.

Security & safety

Smoking is prohibited throughout the whole hostel. Alcohol can be consumed reasonably in the common area.

The hostel has CCTV monitoring, and all common doors open with magnetic keys, which adds a good extra layer of safety.

Price policy

I would place the prices in the upper-middle range.

Please note that city tax is not included in the price shown on booking platforms. You can pay it at reception during check-in, either by cash or card.

General room setup

10 room options
5 beds in the male-only room
1 recommended room choice

It is a medium-sized hostel with up to 10 room options in total. One of the most interesting choices is a LGBTQ+ friendly male-only room for 5 adults, which is the one I would recommend for your stay.

Beds are assigned automatically, but if there is an empty bed available, you can ask the staff to change your assigned spot in their system.

Best bed choices

5-bed male-only room

Best choice

This room is located in the furthest wing of the hostel, which gives it a slightly more tucked-away and comfortable feel.

The layout includes 5 beds in total: one single bed closer to the middle side of the room and 2 bunk beds on the right side.

Of course, the most comfortable and strategic option is the single bed.

Since beds are assigned automatically, you may not get your preferred one right away. However, if another bed is empty, you can ask the staff to change it for you. You can also send a special request while booking and ask for the single or a lower bed.

If you are assigned to the bed closer to the doors, it is better to place your pillow so your legs face toward the windows. That way you avoid the head-to-feet situation and get a much better view of the room.

Why this room works well

Cozy setup

The room feels more intimate than a larger dorm, which makes it easier to settle in and enjoy the atmosphere.

The furthest-wing location also helps it feel a bit calmer and more separate from the busier parts of the hostel.

Combined with the hostel's friendly vibe and good common spaces, it creates a very balanced stay experience.
